Oversikt

We’re thrilled to introduce The South Hams Way, a new 100mile circular walk that takes in sections of the South West Coast Path, Dartmoor Way and Two Moors Way. Showcasing the best scenery that the South Hams has to offer and terrain that varies from roads and footpaths to woodland, open moorland and, of course, the South West Coast path.

It is, simply, some of the most varied and rewarding walking in the country.

The defining feature of this coast is its estuaries, five of them, each with a character all its own. The Yealm at Noss Mayo, wooded and sheltered. The Erme at Mothecombe, wild and crossed only at low tide. The Avon at Bantham, with its surf and sandbars. The broad Kingsbridge and Salcombe estuary. And finally the Dart at Dartmouth, deep and tidal beneath its wooded slopes.

Behind the coast lies the South Devon National Landscape: deep green valleys between soft, rounded hills, native hardwood forests, and rivers that rise on Dartmoor and run all the way down to the sea. To the north stands Dartmoor National Park itself, so wild and so different in feel that it is like stepping into another country altogether.

In a single walk you'll go between open cliff and sheltered creeks, ancient woodland and high moor.

The path takes you through beautifully kept villages, hamlets and old market towns where a thousand years of history is still plainly written.
Totnes, the heart town of the South Hams, is famed for its independent shops and its many listed buildings among them a motte-and-bailey castle raised in the early years of the Norman Conquest.

As with all our walks we bring expert local knowledge of every mile, ferry and tide. We hand-pick the B&Bs you stay in, chosen for comfort and welcome. And we move your luggage, so you carry only what you need and arrive to find your bags already waiting.
